Piatt Township resident urges district to return to paper report cards, citing access and privacy concerns

During courtesy of the floor, Piatt Township resident Shelley Helm addressed trustees to complain about the district’s paperless systems and called for a return to paper report cards. Helm said she cannot access her child’s progress online because of device preferences and suspected security issues, described intermittent server shutdowns and problems on student iPads, and urged the board to provide mailed report cards or a return-service option for taxpayers who pay school taxes.
Helm used blunt language in the public comment period, saying the district’s ‘‘paperless process of stupidity … needs to revert back to paper in hand report cards.’’ She raised concerns about identity theft and the broader reliability of online access for families without consistent internet or printing options.
Board members acknowledged the comment but did not take formal action during the meeting. The public comment closed and the meeting adjourned.
