Council members voted to adopt Resolution 2025‑114, advancing a slate of projects funded from Spokane’s Safe Streets for All program for the current grant cycle. The measure passed 5‑2.
At the public‑comment portion, Brian Meggie, a West Central resident and member of the West Central Traffic Safety Committee, urged the council to reconsider a recently approved amendment that he said removed all West Central projects from the final slate, including Summit Broadway Boone Greenway Round 2. “Excluding the bridge from the traffic study means Spokane will not collect the data that’s needed to meaningfully address the factors that residents live with daily,” Meggie said, arguing that the Maple Street Bridge is the origin point for high‑speed traffic and should be included in the Mabel/Ash corridor pilot study.
Council members who spoke in favor of the resolution said the package includes robust projects citywide and noted the pilot is intended as a starting point for future expansion. One council member said the plan was designed to prioritize a connected network of projects rather than isolated, single‑street improvements. Another member said neighborhood engagement and additional charrettes could help update project lists and address concerns from residents who feel left out.
The resolution’s passage will advance the listed projects for funding and implementation under the Safe Streets for All program, but it does not change the recently adopted exhibit boundary that public commenters said excludes parts of West Central. Council discussion signaled an intent to use future cycles or program reviews to revisit study boundaries and project prioritization for neighborhoods that raised concerns.
