Boone council approves month-to-month engineering contract with WHKS

The Boone City Council voted to approve Resolution 34 60, authorizing a month-to-month professional services agreement with WHKS for interim municipal engineering services.
Administrator Andrea introduced John Joyner of WHKS as the consultant who will support daily operations while the city recruits a permanent engineer. Joyner, who described a long career in municipal engineering and recent retirement from the City of Ames, told council the firm looks forward to working with Boone.
"We're just excited for the opportunity to work with you all," Joyner said.
Speaker 2 presented the resolution, described it as a month-to-month agreement and said the arrangement was intended to cover the interim period while the city fills the engineer vacancy. Council members moved and seconded the measure and conducted a roll-call vote; affirmative responses were recorded and the resolution passed.
The council did not attach a multi-year obligation to the engagement in the language presented at the meeting; the agreement was described on the record as month-to-month. The measure now allows WHKS to begin providing interim engineering services subject to the terms of the agreement.
The council also heard Joyce's (John Joyner) background in transportation planning and public-works leadership in Ames, a point the administrator used to support the selection of WHKS. The agenda item closed with the council placing the agreement on the consent/consensus track and approving it by roll call.
Next steps: WHKS will begin interim engineering support under the terms of the month-to-month agreement; the city will continue recruitment for a permanent engineer.
