Wilson board approves field trips, student clubs, contracts and $1.55M in bills

At its Dec. 2 meeting the Wilson School District Board of School Directors approved a series of operational and student activity items, including field trips, student club accounts, facility contracts and payment of district bills totaling $1,554,548.58.
Field trips: The board approved travel for junior ROTC and robotics/cybersecurity students to a robotics/drone regional championship at Revere High School, Massachusetts, and authorized 10 members of the high school cybersecurity team (and a chaperone) to travel to Washington, D.C. for the Core NetWars tournament. The district’s cost for the D.C. trip was described as transportation and chaperone expenses, approximately $800.
Student clubs and accounts: The board approved creation of student-led clubs at the high school and West Middle School and the establishment of student activity fund accounts (motion 10.3). The vote on 10.3 passed 7–0 with one abstention (Mister McCree). The board also approved closing certain dormant high school student activity accounts and transferring remaining balances to the high school student council account (motion 10.4), which passed 8–0.
Contracts and operations: The board approved installation of new flooring at the high school and Whitfield Elementary through All About Floors via CoStarz and awarded a districtwide paper contract via the Berks County joint purchasing BCIU bid for the period Jan. 1–June 30, 2026; both motions passed by roll call. Donations of pizza and a gift card for the junior/senior powder puff tailgate were accepted with gratitude.
Finance: The board approved payment of bills from the general fund in the amount of $1,554,548.58 by roll call vote (8–0).
Board members praised student initiative during the club discussion; Cochran said the proposed clubs were “student led and student initiated” and expressed pride in the students’ efforts. The superintendent agreed to follow up on parity questions about Reading Olympics accounts between middle schools.
