Board approves transfer of veterans ride program to DAV, sets handoff dates

The Goodhue County Board of Commissioners voted to transfer the county-run veterans ride program to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and set transition dates recommended by the Veteran Services Officer. The officer outlined two transition milestones: stop accepting new ride requests after Dec. 1 and cease county-provided rides after Jan. 1, allowing time to contact veterans who already requested rides.
The Veteran Services Officer said the county provided rides for 149 unique veterans in the last year and estimated total rides for those veterans at roughly 600–700. The officer said staff had prepared contact lists and would call each veteran to explain the DAV request process and help them schedule future rides. Several commissioners acknowledged the service change would prompt strong veteran feedback but said DAV services cover the area and could provide continuity through regional coordination and volunteer drivers.
A motion to confirm the transfer and the proposed dates carried by voice vote.
