Claire Carmelia was sworn in as mayor of Westminster on Dec. 1 during the council’s second special meeting, which began at 8:02 p.m.
Judge On Tang administered the oath to Carmelia and to newly elected councilors Obi Azadi, Jack Johnson and Sarah Narmela. Each took the standard oath to support the constitutions of the United States and the State of Colorado and to faithfully perform the duties of their offices.
"I, Claire Carmelia...do solemnly swear that I will support the constitutions of The United States and of the State of Colorado and the ordinances and city charter of the city of Westminster and faithfully perform the duties of mayor upon which I am about to enter," Carmelia stated as she repeated the oath. Officials and family members joined for photographs after the administration of oaths.
The swearing-in concluded with formal congratulations from the dais and with arrangements to proceed to the mayor pro tem selection and additional public comments later in the meeting.
