Itasca honors Chris Carling for 30 years at Springbrook Nature Center

The Village of Itasca honored Chris Carling on Oct. 21 with a certificate recognizing her 30 years of service at Springbrook Nature Center.
Mayor read a citation noting Carling joined the village in 1995 as a program naturalist and has led educational programming, volunteer mentorship and stewardship projects that transformed exhibits and trails. Mary Fran, speaking for the Itasca Park District, described Carling's daily work maintaining grounds and programs, citing camps, junior naturalist activities, the Goats for Growth program and collaborations with the library and Friends of Springbrook.
Carling thanked the village, the park district and past and present coworkers, describing the nature center as her "second home" and saying, "I'm lucky I get to wake up in the morning and do something that I love." Board members and park district staff praised her longstanding commitment and renamed her affectionately "the goat lady" in reference to recent programming.
The recognition will be entered into the board record; staff and park district representatives noted the importance of the nature center's programs for residents of all ages.
