Muscatine proclaims 40th anniversary for Sister Cities program

Mayor Brad Bark proclaimed Dec. 16, 2025 as the start of Muscatine Sister Cities’ fortieth-anniversary celebration during the Dec. 2 city council meeting. The proclamation said the Sister Cities movement, launched nationally in 1956, has fostered cultural exchanges and educational programs that broaden Muscatine residents’ perspectives.
John, accepting the proclamation on behalf of the Sister Cities board, thanked the mayor, council, the city administrator and volunteers and described the organization’s mission as "peace through people," noting the board’s goal of growing partnerships and deepening existing relationships.
The council presented the board with the formal proclamation and recognized longtime volunteers and institutional partners including the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce, Muscatine Community College and the Muscatine Community School District. The proclamation text listed past and present partner countries and emphasized the program’s role in cultural and educational exchanges.
The city did not take any formal action beyond the proclamation; the board will mark the anniversary with community events beginning Dec. 16, 2025.
