Committee approved planning for a Spain student-exchange for up to 15 students in Feb. 2026 at $2,825 per student and discussed starting a smaller French exchange; host schools in Granada will host students in September before Tewksbury students travel.
Bailey Mahoney outlined plans to continue the Spain exchange program and proposed a pilot French exchange during a Nov. 19 presentation to the Tewksbury School Committee.
Mahoney said the Spain trip would take up to 15 students in February (tentative Feb. 6–18) and cost roughly $2,825 per student; local host families in Spain are covering the Alhambra visit. She described the program format used this year — visiting two partner schools in Granada and spending 4–6 days in school plus cultural day trips — and said host families in Spain will receive visiting students in September as part of the reciprocal exchange.
Mahoney also reported interest from students and teachers in a French exchange, proposing an initial 10-student pilot using the same tour company and procedures. Committee members asked about eligibility (students must be in level 3 or higher language classes) and capacity; Mahoney said the district would manage expectations and could expand to 15 students per program if demand supports it.
After discussion on logistics and policy alignment with the district’s out-of-country field-trip rules, the committee voted to approve planning for the 2026–27 TMHS exchange program. The motion carried unanimously.
