Speaker 6 told the board a landowner raised concerns that parcels had been omitted from the district and that older schedules did not clearly show acreage. He reported a rough engineer estimate of about $4,000 for open-ditch work and $2,000 for laterals and recommended reclassifying at least the open ditch so the work matches what crews are doing on the ground. “I recommend that we do it at least the open ditch because that’s what’s getting done right now,” Speaker 6 said.
Speaker 2 moved to reclassify DD 111 and to appoint an engineer; another participant seconded the motion and the board recorded aye responses. Members discussed next steps for notifications, including possible wetland determinations by the Natural Resources Conservation Service and letters to be sent when the work is closer to a hearing date.
Board members also noted the county’s newer parcel-management system helps avoid dropping parcels in future reclassifications and reduces the risk of omitting land that should be included in a drainage district.
The board did not set a firm schedule for work at this meeting; staff said they would send a response to the landowner who requested review and proceed with the engineering and notification steps as the project advances.
