Stoughton School leaders set timeline for high school principal search; community input to be solicited

District staff outlined the Stoughton High School principal search timetable and invited committee oversight and community participation. Miss Miller told the committee the job posting and description will be posted the week of Nov. 17 and applications will be due Jan. 5 so candidates have time over the holidays to prepare materials.
"We will be posting for screening and interview committee," Miss Miller said, describing a panel that will include faculty, staff, students, parents and community members. She said initial screening will be conducted by herself, the superintendent and Mr. Colantonio; the screening committee will interview selected candidates the week of Jan. 20 and district leaders expect to announce a finalist by Feb. 13.
Committee members asked whether internal candidates will be screened differently and whether blind review could be used to reduce bias. Miss Miller said internal applicants must apply through the same SchoolSpring process as outside candidates; committee members suggested administrative staff could redact identifying information to enable blind initial reviews.
The district intends to record or video candidate presentations, invite community feedback via survey and allow students and staff to provide input during site visits and meet-and-greet events. Miss Miller said finalist site visits at Stoughton High School are planned for the week of Jan. 26 and that the schedule will aim to accommodate candidates who are currently employed.
The committee voiced interest in serving on the screening committee and in ensuring equitable hiring practices. Miss Miller acknowledged the suggestion to anonymize applications for reviewers and said she would discuss that approach with central office staff.
The committee did not take a formal vote on the search process; the timeline and public engagement plan will guide recruitment activity over the winter.
