Council approves appointments to downtown and MLK corridor boards and names legislative analyst

The Lansing City Council unanimously approved three personnel appointments on Oct. 27.
Councilmember Garza moved to appoint Chris Klein as the city’s representative to the Downtown Lansing Inc. board, citing Klein’s more than 14 years in community and economic development and his role as president and CEO of the Lansing Economic Development Corporation. "Under his leadership, hundreds of new housing units are being built downtown," Garza said, and the council voted to confirm the appointment.
Garza also presented Jeremy Matthews for appointment to the South Martin Luther King Corridor Improvement Authority, highlighting his management of more than 200 units and focus on walkability, business diversity and blight elimination; the council voted to appoint Matthews and administered the oath of office.
Vice President Carter moved to offer the council legislative analyst position to Luke Bingaman following committee interviews; the council approved Bingaman’s appointment pending pre-employment clearances, with a tentative start date of Nov. 10.
Other votes of note: the council approved a noise special permit for a Lansing Avenue pump-station upgrade tied to the combined sewer overflow (CSO) initiative (work window Nov. 1; hours 8:00–16:30) and passed the consent agenda, which included show-cause hearings and recognitions. Most personnel and procedural items passed unanimously at the Oct. 27 meeting.
