The Anaheim Elementary School District Board on Dec. 10 voted to renew the Palm Lane Global Academy charter petition after district staff reported the petition had been revised to address staff concerns and the Palm Lane team answered board questions.
Assistant Superintendent Yadira Moreno summarized the staff review under Education Code section 47605(b), noting some areas in the petition that required updates and that Palm Lane submitted an updated version that addressed the district’s concerns. At the board’s invitation, Palm Lane representatives spoke: the school’s superintendent (Dr. Colin) and other leaders described the student population as about "40 to 45%" plurilingual and highlighted culturally responsive practices.
Palm Lane’s representative described restorative practices and inclusive engagement, saying the school prioritizes a sense of belonging and community in curriculum and stakeholder partnerships: "we start with our restorative practices... make sure our students have a sense of belonging," the applicant said.
After public comment and limited clarifying questions from trustees, the board moved and voted to adopt the resolution granting renewal of the Palm Lane Global Academy charter. The motion passed 4–1, with one trustee recorded as opposed. The renewal will allow Palm Lane to continue operating within district geographic boundaries under the terms set in the renewed petition.
Staff noted the renewal process included a public hearing on admission preferences and that Palm Lane had the opportunity to respond to staff recommendations before the vote.
