Draper outlines $12M Lone Peak Parkway work and other near-term street projects

Draper City officials described several large near-term street projects, including a Lone Peak Parkway realignment and widening that Cooley said would cost the city more than $12 million.
"Our project alone on our Lone Peak is over $12,000,000," Public Works Director Scott Cooley said, describing a realignment and widening meant to accommodate heavier traffic from new apartment development and to coordinate with UDOT—s planned widening of 123rd South.
Cooley said the Lone Peak work will be coordinated with UDOT—s widening from I-15 west past Lone Peak, and he framed the project as a paired effort that improves traffic flow for new development. He also listed other projects in the pipeline: Fort Street (about two years out) and a widening of 4th Street from Pioneer to 132nd South. He said the 4th Street project is federally funded and in final design, with public review to follow.
Cooley said utility coordination, geotechnical conditions (sand in trenching), and multi-agency scheduling are typical constraints that can cause short delays during construction.
Mayor Troy Walker thanked Cooley for the overview and said the projects are intended to improve safety, connectivity and pedestrian access across the city.
