Neenah council approves holiday market permit despite alderman’s objection to 10 a.m. alcohol start

The Neenah Common Council voted 8–1 on Nov. 5 to approve a special event permit for Neenah's Very Merry Christmas Market, scheduled Dec. 5–7, 2025. The event permit passed after Alderman Lundrum asked that the item be pulled from the consent agenda and explained she would oppose the permit because the temporary designated outdoor alcohol area (TDORA) was set to begin at 10 a.m.
Alderman Lundrum said she supported the event itself but told council, "This is a family event, and I think this sends the wrong message," explaining that an early alcohol start time made her uncomfortable. After discussion, Alderman Ellis moved to approve the special event permit; Alderman Weber seconded. The motion carried 8–1, with Lundrum recorded as the sole dissent.
The council approved the temporary Class B license for Future Neenah (the event's vendor alcohol license) separately by unanimous consent earlier in the meeting. The mayor read the event dates and hours into the record: Friday, Dec. 5, 5–8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 6, 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Council members did not amend the TDORA start time during the Nov. 5 vote. The council's vote means the event and associated alcohol permit will proceed as scheduled unless event organizers or staff bring a revised permit or time window back to a future meeting.
