Rio Grande City commissioners presented the Citizen of the Month award to Tisa (Tissa/Jewel) Peterson, recognizing her more than five decades of service in education and community volunteerism, and introduced the newly selected Miss RGC bridal court.
Commissioners praised Peterson's long career teaching in Rio Grande City ISD (including Immaculate Conception School), work as a public information officer, writing and photography for the Rio Grande Herald, and long service teaching Sunday school. "I feel very blessed to have lived here all these years," Peterson said, accepting the recognition and thanking the city.
Separately, event organizers presented the Miss RGC bridal court and thanked the pageant director and volunteers; winners will represent the city at local events. The presentations were ceremonial and required no action by the commission.
Why it matters: The recognitions highlight local volunteerism and the city's efforts to acknowledge long-serving residents and community programs; organizers encouraged residents to support upcoming downtown events and the Christmas-tree lighting.
