Rio Grande City votes to join Mo Casey interlocal cooperative to pursue energy savings

Dr. Maria Vidauri, senior vice president with Mo Casey, said the cooperative helps municipalities and districts access group procurement opportunities, including electricity contracts. "One of those is through electricity ' joining our coop," she said during the presentation, and asked commissioners to consider potential savings the cooperative could surface for Rio Grande City.
Commissioners asked staff to bring forward specific opportunities the city could benefit from as they arise; Speaker 14 moved to approve membership, Speaker 4 seconded, and the commission approved the motion by voice vote.
Why it matters: membership in an interlocal purchasing cooperative can give the city access to competitive electricity pricing and other aggregated procurement options without undertaking a full procurement process for each purchase. Staff said they will bring concrete opportunities back to the commission for evaluation before any contract is executed.
Next steps: administration will evaluate and present vendor opportunities identified through the cooperative to the commission for consideration.
