The Omaha City Council unanimously approved an amended liquor-license recommendation on Dec. 16 for Dreamland Lounge (3927 Ames Ave.), after the applicant agreed on the record to amend the application from a Class C to a Class I license and clarify hours.
Attorney David Steyer spoke for the applicant and described the intent to operate primarily as a restaurant with a bar and to pursue a live-music permit in the future. Proponent James Overton emphasized plans to revitalize the corner of Ames and 40th and build a small entertainment district in North Omaha.
Council members pressed the applicant on hours, security and the potential for live music. The applicant signaled willingness to amend hours and to accept a Class I restriction (on-premise only). On the record the applicant’s representative stated amended hours as 11 a.m.–midnight Monday through Thursday and Sunday, and 11 a.m.–2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with a commitment to operate as a Class I. The council first voted to amend the application to Class I and then approved the amended license recommendation; both votes were unanimous 7–0.
Deputy City Attorney Ryan Wiesen advised the council on the local process for amending an application on the record, noting that the applicant must make the representation and the council can vote to amend locally before forwarding a recommendation to the state Liquor Commission.
Council members highlighted public-safety considerations and said they welcomed new food-oriented uses that support North Omaha’s commercial corridor, while underscoring the need for adequate security planning as the business pursues live performances.
The council’s approval is a local recommendation to the Nebraska Liquor Commission; the state commission will handle final licensing and any additional conditions.
