Council members voted on Dec. 15 to fill the Ward 1 vacancy by appointing Katie Raderson to serve until the next ward election in 2027. The nomination by Councilmember Winkle drew roll-call approval from the council.
The appointment followed an extended public comment period during which multiple residents urged the council to appoint Susan Olsen (also spelled Olson in some remarks). Paul Walensky, a councilperson-elect, urged council to select Olsen, citing her vote totals and community involvement. Michelle Esper, Callie Zangali and others also publicly recommended Olsen during the lobby session.
Council opened nominations and Winkle nominated Katie Raderson. The clerk called the roll and the motion carried with all present voting in favor; the council then announced Raderson as the appointed Ward 1 council member. The appointment will last through the 2027 Ward elections.
The council also reminded residents that the city is accepting resumes for a separate Ward 2 vacancy through Dec. 26, 2025.
