Surry County elects Bill Goins chair, Eddie Harris vice chair for 2026

The Surry County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 1 elected Commissioner Bill Goins chair and Commissioner Eddie Harris vice chair for calendar year 2026.
The board opened nominations for chair and, with no opposition, named Goins. Commissioners then voted by voice to confirm the election. In the same process the board nominated and confirmed Eddie Harris as vice chair. County manager opened the floor for nominations and called the voice votes after nominations closed.
The leadership changes followed the board’s recognition of the county’s 2025 Agriculture Hall of Fame inductee and the approval of routine consent items earlier in the meeting. Commissioners offered brief remarks thanking outgoing leaders for their service and congratulating Goins and Harris on their new roles.
The board recessed briefly to reorganize before continuing the rest of its agenda.
