The William Penn School District board reviewed and approved a proposed budget calendar that calls for a Monday vote to propose a preliminary budget not to exceed the Act 1 index and for a schedule of advisory meetings and final adoption dates.
CFO Debbie Maslowski said the board will vote on a preliminary budget on Monday "not to exceed the Act 1 index, which is 5.2" and that the budget-advisory committee will meet from February through May, with a proposed final budget in May and final adoption in June. She noted that if the state provides a budget earlier the district could move tax-bill timing earlier; otherwise tax bills typically mailed mid-July in prior years.
During public comment, a resident identified as Miss Lewis asked whether the district will be able to provide supports the building needs. The board asked to take the matter offline and said staff had met with principals earlier and would follow up with the resident the next day.
Board members also promoted recruitment for the budget advisory committee, saying school-board directors may recommend two residents each from their precincts and asking community members to participate.
The meeting closed after the announcements and a reminder of next steps in the budget process.
