At its December meeting the Syosset Central School District Board of Education approved a slate of routine business items, granted tenure to two staff members and selected a representative for the BOCES budget review committee.
Procedural approvals included the minutes of the Nov. 17, 2025 meeting (motion by Ms. Levitan; second by Mr. Ginsberg) and the treasurer's report for October 2025 (cash on hand reported as $83,678,442.53). Agenda items 6A and 6B (approval of the treasurer's report and appropriation adjustments) were taken together on a motion by Mr. Rotolo and second by Dr. Park and advanced following the board vote.
The board granted tenure to Kelly Morgan and Alex Zander Herbert after a motion to approve the appointments (mover: Ms. Kosher; seconder: Ms. Falcov). Superintendent Dr. Rogers offered remarks congratulating both appointees.
Other approved items included staff changes (11A; mover Mr. Rotolo, second Ms. Abramson), stipends and hourly rates for 2025-26 (11B; mover Ms. Kocia, second Mr. Ginsberg), authorization of stipulations of settlements with CSEA (11D; mover Mr. Rotolo, second Ms. Abramson), and routine approvals of committees' recommendations for preschool special education and special education (12B/12C; mover Mr. Wartola, second Ms. Abramson).
The board also took the second reading and adoption of several policies (12A), including Policy 1,900 (parent and family engagement), Policy 4,321 (programs for students with disabilities under IDEA and New York Education Law, Article 89), Policy 8,330 (authorized use of school-owned materials and equipment), Policy 83 36 (use of surveillance cameras on district property), Policy 84 10 (student transportation services), and Policy 84 21 (use of district-owned vehicles). Motions to adopt these policies were made and seconded on the floor.
The board approved service contracts (13A), special-education and nursing contracts (13B), contracts funded with federal Part B funds (13C), student club and student group charters for 2025-26 (13D, 13E), and the disposal of broken, surplus or obsolete equipment, supplies, and books (13F). Where motions and seconders were recorded in the transcript they are noted above; the transcript records the chair calling for votes on each item but does not provide numeric tallies in the record.
For representation on the 2026-27 BOCES budget review committee, Mr. Ginsberg volunteered to attend; the board chair offered to serve as alternate.
Before public comment began the board read its audience-to-the-public procedures, noting that residents of the Syosset Central School District who register online by 5 p.m. the day of the meeting may speak for up to four minutes; the board then called on Abigail Vose to speak next.
