District staff presented a first‑semester review of the Red Devil Pride Virtual Academy and said the program will continue with adjustments after an initial semester of implementation.
"We had total enrollment of 48 students" in the first semester, Josh (the virtual‑academy lead) told the board, and he later reported semester‑2 enrollment increased to 76 students with a maximum program cap of 99. He said roughly 9 of the original cohort were new to Tri Creek and that the program retained about 11 students who were considering leaving the district.
Josh described program operations: attendance is recorded weekly based on Edmentum logins (a student with recorded weekly logins maintains a "virtually present" status; zero logins for the week result in an unexcused absence), teachers of record are assigned from in‑person staff to provide supports for students with IEPs and 504 plans, and guidance counselors will schedule regular check‑ins. Josh said the district treats virtual students as Tri Creek students for extracurricular eligibility and diploma/credit purposes.
On selection and review, a committee of five or six staff reviews applications looking at academics, attendance, behavior and medical needs; denials are communicated in writing and Josh said he follows up by phone when appropriate. The board discussed whether the district should call denied applicants before sending a denial letter; the presenter agreed to add clearer contact language.
Board members asked about funding; Josh confirmed the district receives the same state funding per student for virtual students as for in‑person students. No programmatic changes or new policy actions were approved during the meeting; board members asked staff to refine application communications and monitoring procedures before further expansion.
