Pendleton Sanitary Service sold in stock sale to Waste Connections; county and SWAC notified

Mike McHenry, chair of the Solid Waste Advisory Committee, told commissioners that Pendleton Sanitary Service has entered a stock sale transaction with Waste Connections US. McHenry said the business entity and trade name will remain the same and only ownership will change; he advised the board that, to his understanding, the change in ownership does not require franchise transfer approvals.
McHenry said Waste Connections already holds franchises in parts of Umatilla County and the Hermiston area and that the company has a record of solid recycling stewardship. He said local managers Denise Hudson and Curtis Fisher, who have long tenures with Pendleton Sanitary Service, will remain in direct control of operations during and after the transition.
County staff said the transfer will be discussed with the Solid Waste Advisory Committee, including an upcoming November meeting to review new curbside commingled recycling service and related rate‑setting. Commissioners thanked McHenry and the outgoing owners for years of local service.
