The Princeton Historic Preservation Commission met in person Dec. 15, 2025, at the Princeton Municipal Building and adopted its 2026 meeting calendar, shifted regular meetings to the fourth Tuesday of each month, and carried a unanimous resolution related to snow guards at 610 Nassau Street.
The commission’s chair read routine annual notices and asked for adoption of three housekeeping items including the 2026 schedule; members approved the calendar by voice vote. The chair said the new schedule places the commission on the fourth Tuesday each month (Jan. 27; Feb. 24; March 24; April 28; May 26; June 23; July 28; Aug. 25; Sept. 22; Oct. 27; Nov. 24; Dec. 22).
The body appointed a nominating committee, reappointing David Shore and Charlotte Friedman after a motion by Emily Kroll and a second by Roger Shatkin. The commission also approved several sets of minutes from prior meetings after minor wording edits were noted.
A substantive recorded action at the meeting was a resolution concerning snow guards at 610 Nassau Street. Chairperson Julie Capizzoli called for a motion; David Shore moved and Roger Shatkin seconded. The commission took a roll-call vote; all members present voted yes (recorded roll call included Shirley Satterfield, Roger Shatkin, Freda/Frida Howard, David Shore, Miss Crowell, Maria (last name as in record), and Chairperson Capizzoli). The chair announced the motion carried.
The commission read two resolutions honoring longtime legal adviser Edwin Schmear for service from before consolidation through December 2025 and recognizing Elizabeth Kim’s more than a decade as Princeton’s Historic Preservation Officer (November 2014–December 2025). During her remarks Kim thanked commissioners and staff for their support: “It was more than I thought that it would be… it’s been a wonderful challenge with all of you supporting me,” she said. The body applauded both honorees and the chair said the awards will be presented in person.
Chairperson Capizzoli introduced Sarah Quinlan as the incoming historic preservation officer; Quinlan attended the meeting but is not yet on staff. Justin, identified as Princeton’s planner, was also present for introductions. The commission closed the meeting and members moved to a planned reception in the community room.
Next steps: the commission will operate under the new fourth-Tuesday schedule in 2026. The file for the 610 Nassau Street resolution is part of the meeting packet; no additional conditions or appeals were recorded during the meeting.
