The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety approved the city’s property and casualty insurance renewal for 2026 at its Dec. 17 meeting after a presentation from Foundation Risk Partners.
Landon Murray of Foundation Risk Partners and broker partners reviewed coverage and pricing. Core limits recommended to continue include general liability at $1,000,000 per occurrence and $3,000,000 aggregate, law‑enforcement professional liability at the same limits with a $25,000 retention per claim, public officials' liability with similar limits, an excess liability layer at $5,000,000 and cyber liability at $5,000,000 (retention $25,000).
Murray highlighted two changes: the wind and hail deductible will increase to $25,000, while other 'all other peril' deductibles remain at $5,000. He attributed the premium change primarily to higher insured property values (from roughly $37 million to $39 million) and growth in outdoor property exposures tied to new projects, including the recently completed park and skate facility. Murray described the proposed premium as roughly a 7% increase compared with the prior term and said that is below many municipal market increases currently being seen.
Board members thanked the risk team and department staff for their year‑round work on coverage and data. The board moved to approve the renewal subject to finalizing policy paperwork; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Next steps: finalize signatory paperwork and implement the new policy on Jan. 1, 2026. Departments will continue to coordinate with the broker on property schedules and vehicle listings.
