Mayor Peter DeLand opened the meeting by reading a proclamation naming Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, as National Wreaths Across America Day in the city of Crown Point and thanking veterans and Gold Star families for their service. "Now, therefore, I, Peter DeLand, mayor of the city of Crown Point, do hereby proclaim Saturday, 12/13/2025 as National Wreaths Across America Day in the city of Crown Point," he said.
Members of the local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter told the board the wreath-laying program is in its sixth year locally and described logistics for this year’s ceremony. They credited Tom Hawes, who manages Maplewood Cemetery, and local sponsor Mission Barbecue for support and said organizers will hold the ceremony indoors at Solon Robinson School to avoid severe weather. DAR representatives invited community members and local businesses to sponsor wreaths and attend.
