The superintendent reported that the Department of Education conducted a comprehensive district review and coordinated program review focused on special education, civil rights and other compliance areas. He said the department visited dozens of classrooms and that the district anticipates a turnaround time of roughly three months for a draft report, with final acceptance likely in March after an internal review.
The superintendent thanked staff who participated in the coordinated program review and said the district had been exchanging documentation and follow-ups with the department for about a year. He also said the administration will send a letter to the community clarifying procedures for fundraising and donations so that gifts are accounted for and processed properly (for example, encouraging donations to go through the Clocker Club or other formal channels rather than directly to teams).
Separately, the assistant superintendent previewed a larger district achievement presentation and noted concern about a 3-percentage-point dip this year in math performance for English learners; he also announced student recognitions for district music and academic competitions. The committee approved superintendent goals and the consent agenda later in the meeting.
