Middleton — The Middleton Tourism Commission voted May 20 to award a $2,500 marketing grant to support TeslaCon, a steampunk convention that the commission said brings roughly 600 or more visitors to the city.
Staff presented the grant request, noting this was the event organizer’s first request to the commission and that funds would be used for direct, targeted marketing and media. “He’s only asking for $2,500,” staff said, adding the organizer has higher event costs this year because of specialty items sourced from overseas.
Commissioner Speaker 5 moved to approve the $2,500 grant and Speaker 3 seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote.
Commissioners described TeslaCon as a reliable generator of hotel room nights and restaurant business. Staff said the commission has supported similar community-focused marketing activities in the past and will notify the applicant of the commission’s decision.
What’s next: staff will inform the applicant (identified in meeting records as Lacombe) and process the grant per the commission’s procedures.
