Fairfax council awards five-year waste contract to Rumpke at $14.10 per household

The Village of Fairfax council voted Dec. 21 to award a five-year contract to Rumpke for curbside household waste, recycling and yard-waste collection, with service scheduled to begin March 1, 2021.

The administrator told the council the bid price is $14.10 per household per month, which the administrator said “equates to $128,592 per year” based on the village’s current household count. The contract calls for weekly trash collection and recycling pickup every other week and includes a new route-supervisor acknowledgement to address missed pickups and early start-time complaints.

Council moved to suspend the three readings required for the ordinance; a roll call was taken with members recorded as voting "Aye," and the measure was adopted as Ordinance 27-20-20. The administrator said, assuming adoption, staff will send Rumpke a notice of award and arrange a date to sign the contract; the current contract runs through February.

A council member asked whether service days would change to Monday; the administrator said collection would remain on Tuesday to avoid reshuffling other communities’ schedules and potentially increasing household rates, though a mid-contract date change could be possible in rare circumstances.
