Commissioners note 3-way stop signage, council holds over step-housing definitions, and commission to interview candidates

Chair Janice Hexford said signage has been placed for a new three-way stop at Southlake Stevens and Machias Cutoff and that an unveiling is expected. She also praised the city’s customer-service efforts and urged staff to maintain responsiveness to residents.
The planning director reported that the city council held over a step-housing proposal at its recent meeting, asking for additional clarification on the definition of “transitional housing” and how it differs from permanent supportive housing. The director said the council removed proposed buffers from the amendment because staff could not demonstrate an impact to public health and safety from omitting them.
Commissioners were told there are four or five candidates for the planning commission and that interviews are scheduled for Dec. 9; two new commissioners will be seated in January. The chair asked commissioners to funnel any additional interview questions through staff to ensure equal treatment of candidates. Commissioners were also reminded of a three-hour training on Dec. 15.
Connor Davis made a motion to adjourn; the motion was seconded and the meeting was adjourned by voice vote.
