Trustee Tina Salem announced Dec. 8 that she will resign her seat on the Tomball ISD Board of Trustees effective at the end of the district's Dec. 9 regular meeting after an anonymous email raised questions about her residency and intent under the Texas Education Code.
Salem, speaking to colleagues and supporters in the audience, said she reviewed the code and believed she met requirements except for a clause about "intent." She said the decision to resign was made to avoid creating drama or distraction for the district. "No one is forcing me to resign," she said, adding that she had led "with integrity as an elected official" and did not want the board or staff's work to be sidetracked.
Board members responded with personal remarks and expressions of gratitude for Salem's years of service. Trustees said they would hold a public follow-up discussion to determine whether to fill the vacancy now or leave the seat to be decided at the next election.
Salem characterized her decision as personal and family‑oriented: she said she and her husband plan to move closer to family, and that recent life events including the death of her father and the birth of a grandchild contributed to the timing of the move.
The board added the resignation to tomorrow's meeting agenda for formal acceptance; Salem said she will submit the resignation so the board can address it during the Dec. 9 regular meeting.
