Waterline project reported complete; Garland/Darling Street work continues with castings delayed

Dustin, the project presenter, told the Goldendale City Council that the waterline project is finished and the city is awaiting contractor release documents before closing out the job.

On the Garland/Darling Street project, Dustin said crews placed asphalt, but several catch-basin castings were backordered and remain uninstalled. Curb work and curb ramps are scheduled to be completed next week; however, the main sidewalk construction has been deferred until spring. He said the contractor expects to open the roadway to traffic before winter and that the remaining missing castings are the result of supply-chain delays.

Councilmembers asked whether rolled curbs were more expensive; Dustin said the price difference observed on this project was only a few dollars per linear foot and explained rolled curbs can be advantageous where future driveways are expected and for snow-pile management. Another councilmember said they were not a fan of rolled curbs for drivability reasons; the exchange left the council aware of differing design preferences but no immediate policy change was proposed.

Public works director Doug Franin logged into the meeting and said he will present a fuller public-works overview at the next council meeting.

The council did not take formal action on the projects during the meeting but asked staff to continue to monitor supply availability and to proceed with planned winter shutdown procedures if needed.
