WESLACO, Texas — The school board recognized student achievements at Weslaco High and Weslaco East, including mariachi students and academic all‑state athletes, and accepted a community grant to support local recreation.

Representatives of the Knapp Community Care Foundation presented a check for $59,732.50 to the Weslaco High Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter to fund construction of a toddler playscape at Gibson Park. Foundation representatives identified themselves as Millie Hernandez (Director of Grants and Programs), Christina Jepez (Grant Specialist) and Dr. Paula Garcia (Board Chair); board members and administrators congratulated students and thanked the foundation for partnership with the district.

Trustees also recognized the Weslaco Panthers football team for an undefeated district record and advancement to the second round of the playoffs, and celebrated All‑State and All‑Region student musicians and academic athletes. Superintendent Rivera read a proclamation declaring January 2026 as School Board Recognition Month.

What's next: The district will coordinate with the foundation and FCCLA on the playscape project and acknowledge the recipients on district marquees and the stadium jumbotron.
