The Plymouth‑Canton Community Schools Board on Nov. 21 approved a first‑and‑final agreement with HopSkipDrive Inc. to provide student transportation services for students experiencing homelessness (McKinney‑Vento) during the 2025–26 school year.
Superintendent Monica Merritt said the district pursued an additional carrier because the current provider had reached capacity. "With our McKinney‑Vento students, we are required to enroll our students immediately," Merritt said, explaining the district’s need for supplemental providers. The contract allows the district to activate HopSkipDrive services as needed and includes transportation to late activities.
Board members confirmed the service will be paid from Title I and 31a funds and noted the company can provide return trips for after‑hours activities that the previous vendor could not. The board moved and approved the agreement on a 6‑0 vote.
The district said the contract is intended to ensure equitable access to school and extracurricular activities for students who lack stable housing; administration will use the agreement if capacity issues arise with the incumbent provider.
