A volunteer crew will begin redoing the roof and trim on the C Building tomorrow at 7:00 a.m., school district representatives said during the RSU 40/MSAD 40 meeting. Materials arranged through Hanna Lumber were quoted at just over $5,100, and volunteers will handle labor that contractors estimated would cost between $15,000 and $23,000 to perform.
The work will include stripping, weatherproofing and shingling; district members said one side of the building appears more worn and they will assess insulation and decking as they go. "We will be redoing the roof and the roof trim on the C Building starting tomorrow morning, 07:00," said Unidentified Speaker 8 during the meeting.
Leah Shipps coordinated an employer donation of up to $999.99 in plywood if resheathing is needed; the donor capped gifts below $1,000. The transcript also records an insurance binder and supply discount from an employer associated with Tim (named in the record), and board members said combined donations and discounts to date total roughly $2,800.
District staff estimated roll-off and incidental costs could bring the total project cost to about $6,000–$6,500. Staff indicated the expense will be paid from small project lines and end-of-year project funds rather than a major reallocation; one staffer said Brian’s maintenance budget is effectively frozen and that this work will come out of minor-project flexibility.
The board treated the reroof as informational; no formal motion or vote was recorded to authorize the project during the meeting. Members said they will note committee support when the item is presented to the facilities committee and plan outreach materials and photos to thank volunteers.
Ryan McNally, identified in the transcript as a horticulture teacher, planned to assist; board members noted that if McNally requires a substitute, that substitute cost would be an added expense to the project. The meeting record does not include a final accounting of the project after work begins.
