The RSU 40/MSAD 40 superintendent thanked volunteers and staff Wednesday night for quickly repairing the C Building roof after leaks were discovered following the last board meeting. The superintendent said volunteers and facilities staff completed initial stripping and re-shingling on Friday and finished fascia and trim work on Saturday, and that no significant rot was found beneath the shingles.
"We were very lucky," Tim, who led the volunteer crew, said, describing a two-day effort in which crews stripped part of the roof by early morning, relaid all shingles and reran fascia and shadow board. The superintendent added, "It was probably the best day I've had at work," and said the work had a visible, positive effect on staff and students.
The superintendent asked that the volunteers be invited to the next board meeting so the board could recognize their effort. He framed the repair as more than a facilities fix, saying it strengthened the district's culture and underscored the community's focus on students. The superintendent also credited staff who helped arrange donated materials and labor.
Next steps: the superintendent said the district would invite volunteers to a future meeting for formal recognition and that staff would continue routine checks to ensure the repair remains weather-tight.
