Commission hears updates on comp plan, outreach, police hire, annexation and utilities

At the start of its meeting, the Plain Planning & Zoning Commission heard a brief communications package and council updates.
Planning staff (Mister Hutchinson) said the comprehensive plan process is "over the hump" and about halfway finished; he said a public community event will be scheduled before December and that more outreach and surveys are planned. Hutchinson also said there will be plats and a code change next month and that the commission should expect a November meeting.
Council-related announcements recorded by the chair included the swearing-in of Officer Bailey Boku after graduation from the academy; a second reading accepting 'Ranco' for potential annexation (annexation still requires surveys and applicant steps); community caravan events on Oct. 20 at Darby Fields and Oct. 27 at Pastime Park for residents to speak with the school district, fire and police departments, and village staff; an electric aggregation measure that will appear on the ballot (residents can opt out if they do not want group bargaining for electricity/gas); and a council vote to establish a stormwater utility to direct new-development funds toward existing infrastructure needs.
There were no public comments recorded for the meeting and no old-business items carried over. The commission moved promptly into new business.
