The Edgar County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt the county budget and levy for the fiscal year beginning Nov. 1, 2025, and ending Nov. 30, 2026.
The measure was moved by Andy and seconded by Russ after the board said it had already held a public hearing and addressed public concerns. A roll-call vote recorded a majority in favor and one no vote from Commissioner Farnham; the chair declared the resolution approved.
County officials said the board had discussed the budget several times on prior agendas and had taken public input at the hearing on the levy. The chair said the county is ready to proceed and that the adoption follows previously disclosed budget planning.
The board’s finance discussion at the meeting also covered several related fiscal items: the juvenile courthouse bond fund (originally expected to be sustained in part by rent income), recent bond payments that reduced the county’s public safety fund, and the county’s approach to timing differences in revenue and large tort payments. Commissioners asked for an updated bond-payment schedule at the next study session to clarify remaining payoffs and cash flow assumptions.
Next steps: the board will proceed under the adopted levy rates and budget and plans a study-session follow-up on bond-payment timing and other accrual accounting items.
