Trail and stated, “I, Shelley Bridal, mayor of the Town Of Westfield, together with the town council... do hereby offer our deepest appreciation.” Peter Wong of the National Park Service spoke to the council and thanked Westfield for elevating its connection to the national trail.
Council members noted that the Historic Preservation Commission had endorsed the renaming; the council later approved the formal resolution to rename the park by voice and roll call. Council members said the town will follow up with new signage and planned interpretive materials to mark the site along the route.
