Farragut staff backs flexibility to average masonry on mixed-use town-center façades

Staff said the flexibility is intended to help new buildings blend with existing structures in the West End Center neighborhood, where older buildings do not meet the current per-elevation face-brick standard. "As long as you have 75% face brick on the 4 elevations averaged, then it would be consistent with those standards," staff explained, noting the change would require amending the zoning ordinance language.
Commissioners and the applicant said they supported the approach as a way to maintain an overall high masonry standard while allowing design compatibility. Commissioners asked staff to prepare ordinance language and return with a formal amendment for the December meeting. No formal vote was taken; the item remained a discussion item to allow time for staff and the applicant to craft proposed ordinance text.
