Farragut commission approves sidewalk extension along Everett Road

The Town of Farragut Planning Commission unanimously approved plans to extend a concrete sidewalk along the west side of Everett Road from the trail connection at Split Rail Farm subdivision to the Fox Run Greenway.
Town staff turned the proposal over to Lincoln Fugal of LDA Engineering, who described the design and constraints. "It it's about 7 and a half feet for the majority of the distance, but you can see right there in the center, it narrows down to 6 feet," Fugal said, noting the alignment runs close to a hillside. He said the design includes a curb to act as a protective barrier between pedestrians and vehicles and that the firm coordinated with the gas utility, which does not require relocation of an existing gas line that crosses the project.
The commission and staff framed the project as a connector intended to knit together the town's pedestrian network over time. Commissioners expressed general support, with several noting the area is difficult for walking and that the new sidewalk will improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. There were no public speakers on the item.
A motion to approve the sidewalk plans was made, seconded and approved unanimously. With approval, the project proceeds under the town's standard permitting and right-of-way review processes.
Next steps: staff will proceed with permitting and any required construction coordination with utilities.
