Third‑grade members of Morgan Elementary's student council presented a slideshow and described this year’s community service projects to the Ross Local School District Board of Education.
Student council member Jack Durnan said the council has 12 members and that eight were present at the meeting. He described the district’s major service projects, including a Grama canned food drive that collected more than 2,000 canned goods to help local families during the holidays and contributions to Blue Star veterans, which the students said were sent to homeless veterans and to veterans receiving care at the Dayton and Cincinnati VA hospitals.
Students also described a preschool 'book buddies' program in which preschool classes visit the media center for reading and activities, a 'sunshine cart' to show appreciation for staff, and a weekly recycling effort that collects paper from classrooms for recycling. Principal Tom Perry and adviser Shelley Bowers introduced the students and highlighted the leadership and confidence gains they see as students participate in service projects.
Board members praised the students’ presentation and thanked parents for attending; Doctor Rice and board members closed the segment by recognizing Morgan Elementary’s efforts and inviting the students to leave early to prepare for school the next day.
Context: The student presentation was part of the meeting’s 'presentations' portion and was followed by a separate recognition for outgoing board member Keith Kleinfelder.
