Lake Stevens council votes to dissolve Veterans Commission, says services continue via partners

Lake Stevens City Council voted on Nov. 18 to dissolve the Lake Stevens Veterans Commission by adopting Ordinance 1208. Councilmember Hilt, who had served on the commission and described its history, said the commission operated actively for several years with community partners, but had become largely duplicative of services delivered by private organizations, the county and state and had not met since about 2022.
Hilt and others recounted the commission’s early work with Operation Military Family and community members and said the American Legion and other groups continue to support veteran services locally. "This does not mean the city doesn't support our veterans — the American Legion has really stepped up," a council member said during debate.
The motion to dissolve passed with an affirmative vote; councilmembers thanked commission volunteers for their service and confirmed city support for veterans will continue through other programs and partners.
