South Charleston schedules tree lighting, parade and decorations; council appoints local business owner to planning commission

At the meeting the council recognized Amanda Ream and heard details of the city’s holiday calendar. Ream said the annual tree-lighting ceremony will be Friday, Dec. 5, with festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m., a charity golf-cart "Deck the Carts" caravan at 6 p.m. to benefit the Maddox Potter Foundation, a drone show at about 6:30 p.m., and the tree lighting afterward. She said participants may bring their own golf carts or rent from the city and that all proceeds from the caravan will go to the foundation; "the city is not making any money off of this event," she said.
Ream also announced the Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 6 (lineup 11 a.m., parade starts at noon) with roughly 70 entries currently registered, a holiday-window contest with 19 businesses signed up, a 12 Days of Cheer local-purchase promotion, and a residential holiday-decorating contest running Dec. 15–19. She encouraged sign-ups and said proceeds and prize money will stay local.
The council also approved the appointment of Carly (surname spoken as Daddison during discussion) to the municipal planning commission; she was introduced as a business owner who lives near the farmers market and has expressed interest in serving.
Earlier in the meeting Mayor Frank A. Mullins Jr. read a proclamation declaring November 2025 as "Christian heritage week," citing the role of Christian charities, ministries and traditions in state history. Council approved the proclamation by voice vote.
The meeting included several community-service updates: a senior program Thanksgiving lunch that served about 100 people, a city donation that aided feeding 40–50 families, and a "Cookies and Milk with Santa" community-center event with Santa Greg Barnett.
