District announces $600,000 in federal and state-related grants for CTE and school safety

The Galt Joint Union Elementary School District said it has secured funding to expand career-technical education and to strengthen campus safety.
Superintendent Anna Bridal told trustees the district received a Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTIG) award of $100,000 to support ag and natural-resources pathways. The superintendent said the district has met a reported $200,000 local match through existing expenditures (including $43,000 on a van for the ag program) and that the grant funds will support program growth and materials.
The superintendent also announced a COPS School Violence Prevention Program award of $500,000 to improve school security. The district said the award requires a 25% local match ($125,000) and must be spent over 36 months. Planned uses discussed at the meeting included expanded security cameras, upgraded locking hardware allowing classroom doors to lock from inside, radios, and other perimeter and access upgrades. The district said it will coordinate needs analysis with the Galt Police Department and the district’s technology and maintenance teams; Trustee Matthew Ward volunteered to participate in planning.
District staff said they will prioritize school-site assessments and develop implementation plans for each campus. No procurement decisions were taken at the meeting; trustees welcomed the awards and thanked staff who pursued the grants.
