Minister asks planning staff for help resolving permit issues to recondition New Temple Holiness Church

Callaway said the church has been largely unoperable for about four years because of storm and structural damage and that he was hired to recondition the building. He said efforts are stalled by permitting requirements and certification items the city requires before work can proceed. "We are having so many issues within the city to do that," Callaway said, explaining he needs to dry the building and obtain permits or certifications to secure the structure.
Chairperson Taylor and staff did not take formal action at the meeting but directed Callaway to speak with Executive Secretary Sheila McAllister and support staff after the meeting to identify the appropriate permitting path and resources. McAllister confirmed the commission staff could direct him to the right city offices to process permit requests.
Callaway said his work includes prior church restorations and that his current priority is to stabilize and dry the building so additional repairs can proceed; he noted the pastor’s wife is elderly and the project has a personal dimension for the congregation. No timeline or formal permit approvals were announced during the meeting.
