Tyler ISD trustees approve most consent items, accept PTA donation and split appraisal‑district votes

The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees handled routine business and several votes during the meeting.

Consent agenda: Trustees moved to approve the consent agenda and pulled items C (gifts and donations) and H (resolution for appraisal-district appointment) for separate discussion; the motion to approve the remaining consent items carried.

Gifts and donations: The board approved an $11,400 donation from the Andy Woods PTA to support elementary physical‑education skating and indoor activity experiences. Administration highlighted the PTA's fundraising and district staff said such donations are common across campuses.

Appraisal‑district votes: On a resolution related to appointments to the Smith County Appraisal District Board of Directors, staff explained that as the largest taxing jurisdiction in the county Tyler ISD controls 293 votes to allocate among candidates for two open positions. Trustees discussed options, then approved a motion to split the district's 293 votes approximately 146 for James Sheridan and 147 for Mark Whatley. The motion carried.

Final consent approvals and other business: After the discrete votes, the board returned to the remainder of the consent agenda, approved curriculum items and other routine reports, and heard additional staff presentations. The superintendent reminded trustees that policy allows the superintendent limited calendar adjustments once the board adopts a calendar.

The meeting closed with reports on safety and security, policy updates and a reminder that the next regular meeting is Dec. 15.
