At the Nov. 10 work session, the council placed ratification of the Nov. 4 election results on the regular meeting agenda and discussed several administrative items.
Mayor introduced the ratification item and asked Melissa to explain the distinction between certification and ratification. "The election superintendent is the one who legally certifies the election results, and I did that this morning once I got the answer on the provisional ballot," Melissa said. She described tonight's ratification as "basically recognizing and reading the actual results of the election into the record." Staff told the council one provisional ballot had been reviewed and it was not accepted, so the certified totals stand.
On internal governance, the mayor asked colleagues to support Norman as mayor pro tem for the coming year, clarifying the selection customarily comes from council members and is typically decided in January. The mayor said Norman has been available and active and asked for support when the position comes up.
The agenda also listed an item to declare outdated Motorola police radios surplus so they may be sold or disposed of under city procedures; no formal sale was discussed during the work session.
No formal votes on these items were recorded during the work session; staff described next steps for certification and agenda preparation for the regular meeting.
