Wiseburn presents curriculum targets, math pilot plans and facility timelines

A school-site presenter described site-level use of i‑Ready diagnostic data to disaggregate skills and set growth targets; the site’s stated aspirational goal is to expand ‘‘tier 1’’ proficiency to 80% by year’s end, beginning with phonics for early grades. The presenter said the i‑Ready data allow teachers to focus on essential standards and pinpoint a small number of students who, if moved, would shift a cohort into higher proficiency bands.
Maggie (curriculum/math lead) told trustees the state has finalized the secondary math-textbook list and the district will pilot two middle-school curriculum tools (Amplify Desmos and Eureka) in winter 2026 with a planned adoption vote for May or June 2026. Staff described professional learning communities and staff development tied to new standards-based report cards and middle-of-year diagnostics to monitor progress.
Monique summarized Capturing Kids’ Hearts coaching visits and said a district coach believes some sites may qualify as national showcase-recognition schools for culture work. Kim highlighted special-education team efforts and recommended converting a WFA SPED ad hoc MOU-based committee into a standing committee to continue dialogue.
Superintendent Blake reviewed operational items: the Del Aire baseball field has been substantially improved, the district estimates the larger sports complex target completion moved from an initial Jan. 31 date to mid‑February after about 14 lost days of work due to heavy rain, and EV charging-station installations are in paperwork stages with a best-case timeline of February–March for activation. Blake also said he will attend ALICE instructor recertification training in Detroit on Dec. 18 to support safety programming.
What’s next: curriculum pilots and the FY 2025–26 first interim budget will be on the December agenda; schools will present mid-year diagnostic updates and staff will return with adoption recommendations for middle‑school math by spring 2026.
